About Us

We have been involved in opera for over 30 years, both as professional singers, and in running our own opera companies, Opera Box and Swansea City Opera

Some 20 years ago, we also created The Opera School Wales, our post graduate training school for gifted young singers, which runs courses on an annual or biannual basis, led by such high profile tutors as David Syrus, Head of Music at Covent Garden.  A past student of The Opera School Wales - Katerina Karneus - won The Cardiff Singer of the World and has since has made a  major international career.

Opera Box has been touring theatres, and other venues, such as historic houses and private gardens, for over 20 years, and has worked with both English Heritage and The National Trust staging outdoor opera seasons for them.  Swansea City Opera was launched in May 2004 as the City Of Swansea’s flagship opera company, and has now been touring major UK venues for over 6 years.

Both companies have been regular visitors to the country’s most prestigious theatres, as well as smaller venues, performing the most popular operas by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Donizetti, Rossini and Bizet, as well as lesser-known work, including the world premiere of Alun Hoddinott’s opera ‘Tower’, which was especially commissioned by us and funded by Arts Council Wales.

Our fully staged, traditionally costumed productions, often sung in English, have proved highly popular over the years, as well as being accessible enough to have introduced many people to an appreciation of opera, who may otherwise never have discovered this wonderful art form.

Since 2008, we have also owned and marketed a beautiful, classical apartment in central Budapest, where opera, ballet and music lovers can enjoy a city break, or holiday, just 5 minutes walk away from the magnificent Hungarian State Opera House.

Having such strong ties, with the world of opera, it came to our notice that gifts for opera lovers were rather thin on the ground.  We therefore decided to create a range of gifts related directly and indirectly to opera, with opera lovers in mind.

Many of the inspirations have come directly from our past productions such as costume designs, others we have created afresh, and some are sourced from companies that create high quality fashion accessories which have an operatic feel to them.

We have also created some items looking at the lighter side of opera, such as our humorous cards and jigsaw puzzles.

We are delighted to present our new and exciting range of opera and music based gifts, all of which are available to purchase online, via our Web site.

The range will be increasing over time and we very much hope you will find something for yourself or as a suitable gift for an opera-loving friend.
